Sturmanskie watches proudly bear the title of space watch, because a Sturmanskie timepiece accompanied Yuri Gagarin on his first flight to the Earth’s orbit. Our Gagarin Heritage 42 collection carefully brings the classic design of the legendary watch to the modern age. This model features a simple yet incredibly appealing masculine aesthetic. The round stainless steel case colour goes perfectly with the grey leather strap and a standard buckle. The gray dial features large 12-hour markers in retro print. The paint is luminous, so the watch can be used in the dark. The crystal on the dial is convex, with two radii. Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin during his first flight into space is depicted on the back of the case. The Russian-made Poljot 2416 movement with automatic winding is at the core of this model.
ABOUT STURMANSKIE
The Russians were the first to explore space on 12 April 1961 when cosmonaut, Yuri Gagarin, orbited the Earth in his Vostok-1 for one hour and forty-eight minutes. On his wrist, he wore a Sturmanskie watch, the first special timepiece in the world designed and manufactured to go in to space.
Withstanding the severe conditions of zero gravity, strong accelerations, unpredictable vibrations, and varying temperatures, Sturmanskie was the first brand to make astronomical feats in the watch world.
Its innovation was owed to the nautical and aviation chronometers originally developed for the Military Air Forces and Navy by the First Moscow Watch Factory.
The brand Sturmanskie was first launched in 1949. Back then, it was exclusively available for the Armed Forces and Navy of the USSR. It was only in 1983 that Sturmanskie watches were made available to the general public.
Sturmanskie designs continue to be inspired by and pay homage to new frontiers, adventure and exploration.
