The REC RNR Collection – Land Rover Distilled

RECover, RECycle, REClaim. Or REC for short. In the short time REC Watches has appeared on our radars, they have garnered a strong and loyal fan base thanks to their philosophy of salvaging automotive icons from all over the world. REC tracks their origins and understands their stories before recycling and repurposing components of the automobile while preserving as much of the original patina of these parts. These high quality components are crafted lovingly into brand new and utterly unique timepieces without diluting the ideas and ideals of the original designs.
After two years of waiting, REC has unveiled timepieces that honour the designs of the most iconic off-roader ever made. REC’s new RNR collection presents two Swiss made models, with a dial handcrafted from the roof of a 1981 Land Rover Series III (BEACH RUNNER) and the left door of a 2003 Land Rover Defender (ROCK FIGHTER). The former is a limited edition watch of 552 pieces whereas the latter, 463 pieces. Every aspect of the design of these legendary vehicles including their displays, components and even their representative colours have been implemented into the design of the watches.
The stainless steel 40mm watches are powered by accurate Swiss-made Sellita automatic movements that serve up to 38 hours when fully wound. The black rubber bezel encapsulates the dial that are created using metal from the original Land Rovers. The key highlight is of course the success of the watches in capturing the iconic design trademarks of the Land Rover. REC has successfully achieved this by crafting timepieces that are unique and stand on their own even without the actual Land Rover being present. Paying homage to the British icon, the recognizable and awe-inspiring form of the Land Rover is truly distilled into these fabulous limited edition watches.

“With the RNR collection it was all about straight, square lines softened by the round elements found on the Land Rover - the shape of the wheel being one. We wanted to create a timepiece that could stand on its own – as well as designing a timepiece that spoke directly to the hearts of Land Rover fans all over the world,” said Thomas Funder, Designer of REC Watches.
