BEHRENS Inventor – The Dark Knight
Tourbillons are widely regarded as one of the pinnacles of watchmaking, and often a sign of watchmaking excellence. While not technically a pure complication per se, tourbillon movements are found on watches exemplifying the highest levels of watchmaking craftsmanship.
To highlight this craftmanship, BEHRENS has officially collaborated with Warner Brothers and designed an all-new timepiece, “The Dark Knight”, celebrating the 85th anniversary of the famous superhero. The Dark Knight features a 38mm round case, featuring with a skeletonized, in-house developed manual wind tourbillon movement Cal.BM05 and is limited to 200pcs.
The Functions
BEHRENS undertook the challenge of building this unique tourbillon exclusively for the 85th anniversary of Batman. For this new timepiece, we created a special 38mm diameter round case to accommodate the new, in-house Cal.BM05 manual wind movement. The majority of the movement’s mechanism is housed in the upper half of the case. This allows the lower half of the dial to focus on the flying tourbillon. The flying tourbillon mechanism sports a lumed Batman logo, reminiscent of the famous “Bat Signal” which rotates once every 60 seconds.
At the 9:30 position, a day/night indicator takes the form of a rotating sphere. The white half features the “Wayne Enterprises” logo and represents daytime. On the other side, the black half features the “Bat Signal” representing nighttime. Alongside this, there is a discreet power reserve indicator at 1:30 position, and a date window display at 6:00 position.
The Case
The round case Grade 5 titanium received a black DLC coating to match the Caped Crusader’s signature color scheme. A sapphire crystal and case back allow the wearer and unobstructed view of the display the BM05 movement. Additionally, the lugs featured a partially open-worked design to add further detail and depth to the case.
The Strap
Each piece of the “The Dark Knight” series will come with two fitted rubber straps (orange and black, each with the Batman logo) with quick change mechanism.
