The Shanghai Watch THE BUND Magic Formula Yi Lan brings an artistic sense of movement to the collection’s unconventional wandering-hours display.

Rather than relying on traditional centrally mounted hour and minute hands, the Magic Formula presents time through a wandering-hours mechanism. As the hour indication travels across the dial, the display continually changes its composition, turning the passage of time into part of the watch’s visual experience.

What sets the Yi Lan apart is its blue-green smoked dial, decorated with a flowing water-ripple pattern. The graduated colour deepens towards the edge of the dial, while the rippling texture creates a sense of movement beneath the mechanical display. The name “Yi Lan” (漪澜) itself evokes ripples and waves, reflecting the fluid character of the design.

Warm tones from the rose-gold PVD-coated case provide a striking contrast against the cool blue-green dial. Crafted from 316L stainless steel, the case measures 41.5mm in diameter and 13.7mm thick, giving the unconventional display enough space to become the focal point of the watch.

An anti-reflective curved sapphire crystal provides a clear view of the dial, while a full sapphire crystal exhibition caseback reveals the movement from the reverse.

Powering the watch is Shanghai Watch’s FWS-F01 automatic mechanical movement. The 28-jewel calibre operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and provides up to 38 hours of power reserve.

A brown leather strap completes the composition, complementing the warm rose-gold case while allowing the blue-green dial to remain the centre of attention.

Combining an unconventional wandering-hours display with the visual movement of water, the Magic Formula Yi Lan offers a distinctly artistic interpretation of mechanical timekeeping — one where colour, texture and mechanics continually shift across the wrist.
