12 April 1961 marked the start of a new age for humanity. Inspired by the courage and daring of the first space traveller, we have developed the Gagarin First series, trying to make every piece in it perfect in every respect. A great watch for every day that will fit with just about any look. The small black dial with gold numbers, thin luminous hands and a bright Sturmanskie logo looks striking and original. An austere dark brown leather strap goes well with it. The steel case has a unique number on the back. The manual Poljot 2609 movement is responsible for the reliable and precise functioning of the watch.
The Russians were the first to explore space on 12 April 1961 when cosmonaut, Yuri Gagarin, orbited the Earth in his Vostok-1 for one hour and forty-eight minutes. On his wrist, he wore a Sturmanskie watch, the first special timepiece in the world designed and manufactured to go in to space.
Withstanding the severe conditions of zero gravity, strong accelerations, unpredictable vibrations, and varying temperatures, Sturmanskie was the first brand to make astronomical feats in the watch world.
Its innovation was owed to the nautical and aviation chronometers originally developed for the Military Air Forces and Navy by the First Moscow Watch Factory.
The brand Sturmanskie was first launched in 1949. Back then, it was exclusively available for the Armed Forces and Navy of the USSR. It was only in 1983 that Sturmanskie watches were made available to the general public.
Sturmanskie designs continue to be inspired by and pay homage to new frontiers, adventure and exploration.
